Would a rod that had been impregnated need to be varnished (either dipped or rubbed/brushed) ??? Or would this just be for that glossy look??
Thanks

Hi Darrin,
The general answer is no, impregnated rods do not need to be varnished. But as with most things in bamboo rods, it's not quite that simple. All impregnation methods are not the same. If the method that has been used on your blank truly seals the fibers of the bamboo, then no further finish is necessary. If though, the impregnation method only partially seals the bamboo, a good finish coat will be a plus.
I have used Mike Brooks' impregnation sauce. It thoroughly seals the fibers all the way through the blank. But after buffing the blank to a semi-gloss finish and wrapping all the guides I _still_ add a coupla good coats of caranuba based wax to keep things looking nice and add a little protection.
