My father wants me to build him a fly rod with a spin handle..

we have a 9' Batson 5 WT blank picked . Its the rainshadow RX7 2-piece

i have only done fly rods and double foot guides i have yet to do single foot spinning rod. I guess i'm stuck on what kind of handle to buy as well

batson has them on their website but not sure what all i would need?

i guess id need a reel seat a cork handle and a butt piece?

looking forward to maybe a supply list if you guys would be so kind

tip and guides i can get no problem. just wondering how and what to get for a handle setup

Thanks

John T.
Spin handle? Look at a full wells grip- that would be very similar to a spinning handle. Not sure why he wants a spinning handle/grip on a fly rod.
Went back an re-read your thread. You mention a single foot spinning rod. Kind of confused (easy for me) as to what you are doing.
For a fly rod you need- reel seat and insert, grip, winding check, hookkeep, two stripper guides for 9' rod, guides, tiptop plus the other thingies to put it all together. Batson has a guide placement on their website. Or, you can use the one on the forum under Reference Material and Tips.

BTW, looking forward to the Little League World Series in your town.

thanks we go to it every year!

back to the story.. you read it right.. 9' fly rod blank, but using it as a spinning rod... i know all the things i need to build a FLY rod.. just not a fly rod being used as a spinning rod.. maybe that sounds better i ramble sometimes

OK, never done it but there are those who have built spinning rods on fly rod blanks. Stand by.

Built 8 of these this year so far. They make awesome panfishing and/or light bass rods depending on the weight.
Pretty basic and straight forward. I use a cork rear grip of about 7 - 8" and sometimes as short as 5"-6" depending upon what the customer wants. (Personally don't care for the super-long rear handle because we fish alot from float tubes and shorter is better in our case) Either buy or fashion a 2" - 2 1/2" cork foregrip. In between the two I use a graphite reel seat. I use PacBay spinning guides. My spacing is set up from testing, testing, and more testing but I've never done a 9' The longest so far has been 8' 6"
Have 6 more on the waiting list but I don't build in the summer. Only build from October to April. The rest of the time is for fishing LOL
Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll certainly try to help.
Incidently....I've found that the RX7 blanks are really nice for this application.
