For anyone out there does does their own custom decals for your rods, what is the best printer/method for doing this. I think that the dry transfer is the way to go but I am not sure. Any printer recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I know that I can "sub" it out to have done. I am looking to do my own decals. Anyone else have any info on what type of printer/decal paper to buy?

That's my point. We have all thought we could print our own decals!

www.swamplandtackle.com has several types of inkjet printer paper to make you own decals.

Hobby Lobby has all the paper also. I've tried clear water slide on green and black blanks but no matter how light of color print I use it doesnt show up. You can use the white waterslide, try to make the background as close to the color of the blank as possible and print the text in any color you choose, only problem is getting the background color close enough to not be noticable. I think you have to type everything backword on transfer paper, I'm not sure though. Chatted with another member about this and he uses an Alps printer to use on clear waterslide. Do a search on youtube and there is a demonstration with an Alps printer. If only someone made white, silver or gold injet cartridges it would be easy.

Thanks for all the responses. Hopefully it will all work out for us!

Mark in PA,

Dry Transfer printers were ruled by ALPS many years ago but have since became extinct or very hard to find a good one. They may still be available in Japan for approx $1000.00 plus $140.00 shipping to the states.

Powis Parker makes an excellent one and is sold in the states for approx $2500.00 plus $40.00 shipping.

Paper can be had from Texas Craft in Texas for both laser printing and ink jet printing at about $15.00 per 10 sheets and $8.00 shipping

Having me print your decals while you make fishing rods: PRICELESS or just $3.50 each with no minimum and $1.00 shipping . . .. Now with those thoughts in mind - just give me a call and I can help.

PS: Thanks for the recommendation Matt.

It all depends on the look your after when printing ones own decals on a regular home printer.

For me, it's been hit & miss and I much prefer the types that Charlie & other's can make to order.
