I have a question regarding a finished guide wrap. When I tie on a guide and put a two part rod finish on it, after a few times using the rod, the tip of the guide foot appears to pull away from the blank. The guide is not loose in any way. The finish I use is the Cabelas two part rod finish that comes in the packet form...no measuring, just snip off the ends and sqeeze out the even parts into a mixing cup. This is only a cosmetic problem, but I would like to know if there is something I could do about it. The blanks are fly rod blanks that are tied up for a spinning rod for steelhead fishing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest guide prep. Although sometimes the finish will crack right at the tip of the foot when the rod flexes. You need to make sure the guide is ground down properly and sometimes you need to actually straighten it. A picture may help. Besides, Froggy likes pictures!

If you are using spinning guides an a fly blank, the guides may be just a little too big on the foot and not allowing for any flex of the blank. If you go to single foot guides, it may possibly help the situation, if you are not already using them. Just a suggestion, but as Mike said, pictures would be helpful.

if your using single foot guides,? myself, i been using single foot insert ring type (clag, iclsg, halide, ect) guides on most all my fly rods, down too 3wts,, also i use a lot of lite colored threads, so color perserver is added, if the cp goes past the thread onto the rod, wipe it back, so the epoxy stays in contact with the blank, also after the first coat of epoxy dries, i stand my rods on end , go back with a bodkin, and hit all the tunnels and around the foot ring area, , tapping the rod butt on the floor too work the epoxy down in, let the rod dry standing a few days in the upright position, plus i go at least a eight + by the ring side with the epoxy on the last coats, single foots dont take the abuse that well, my problem with guides loosening is usually too large a fish,,,

Thanks for all the replies. I do grind/file down the end of the guides, maybe I'm not taking enough off. I am using Fugi single foot spinning guides. I will take a picture, I should have done that in the first place. Thanks again for the help.
