looking for some InvisaThread. Just wondering if anyone has found it. I would like to try it on a rod.

thanks

I'm not sure if it's the same thing ( do you mean like what they use on Carrot Stix saltwater rods? ) but, taxidermists use something by that name. Also, regular nylon White thread will go clear if you don't use Color Preserver on it.

Actully the white nylon I have tried turned out pretty milky looking. Try silk.

I think I know what you are referring to: I walked into a quilt shop yesterday looking for some yli 100, which they didn't have, but left with a spool of "Wonder Invisible Thread, .004 clear 100% nylon, YLI". I wrapped a snake guide last night with it. It is very fine, clear, a little stretch. Not much fun to wrap, definitely need magnification. I'll try some threadmaster lite on it in a couple days, but like mono, I am a little skeptical about getting epoxy to flow around and under it. I am going to keep looking for some YLI 100 in natural white (I know I could mail order it, but will probably spend a week and 15 dollars of gas trying to find it locally before breaking down and ordering it online. smile.gif

I am new to building rods and this forum but I found a fly rod builder on line that has some examples of a clear thread. Is this what you are referring to? See link below:

I am sure your example is silk thread. I tested the clear nylon against YLI natural white and the silk was the clear winner.

I have also had some yellow silk threads become totally clear when finished with spar varnish.

has anyone ever tried using flourocarbon line or clear mono to wrap with? Also they make a sewing thread that looks a lot like mono but I really don't know what the differences would be.

see above - doesn't work as well as the epoxy or varnish doesn't soak into the mono.
