I didn't want to hijack Steeldrifter's thread... so I started a new one. Show us your feather inlays! (I need some new ideas. hysterical.gif )

Here's me getting JC crazy on a couple Winstons...

A TMF label... is it too much?

A 3 wt WT...

I haven't done any feather inlays on rods (yet), so, I give you my inserts, instead...

The JC's are very good and I really like the insert inlays. I'll be trying them.

Can you explain what you've done on the top two, Froggy?

The top one (first pic) is African blackwood with tourquoise crushed stone inlay. I cut two grooves with my parting tool and filled them with the stone/epoxy mix.
The second one was for the insert swap we had a while ago. It's rosewood with Lady Amherst and grizzly hackle feather inlay. I applied the feathers the same way some do on a rod blank: CP to set it, then finish (Threadmaster in this case) over that when it's dry.

Thanks, Steve. The TMF was tough, I had trouble getting the feathers to follow the curve of the blank. I ended up tying them down with a little thread.

Chris, I really like those inserts, very different, especially the turquoise. I've always wanted to do something like that on a grip.

Here is a few of mine.

I really like how the feather came out on the last pic.

What the heck, I'll dredge up may favourite inlay job from an old post:

Kerrye - love the little hook in those inlays. Nice touch! thumbsup.gif

It took me quite a while to get the technique down on turning the eye 90 deg. (started out breaking about 3 out of 4 tries) and finding the #32 scud hooks for the inlays, but I like them too. wallbash.gif

Some pretty neat stuff, there. Jon, I definately see the Henson infuence in your inlays.

Kerrye, the little hook is very cool.

That is what happens when you go fishing with Terry and you have a little too much to drink. headbang.gif
Terry is full of some great info on Rod building.
