Full Version: Two tone wrap
Rod Building > General Rod Building > Wraps and Finishing

This is from a fly rod that I built for our Trout Unlimited banquet in December. I got it back to rework the butt wrap and smooth it out. I finally got the hang of posting pictures, thanks to steeldrifter and others. Going to put it here for you all to look at. How does it look? Improve anywhere????

Crutique, huh? Well, I don't think I'm qualified but let me say first that light on dark can be difficult. Tight packing, even wrap pressure and good burnishing are a must. You can see a line at the end of the foot, be sure the guide foot is tapered well.
As far as the trim wrap I would try to get it centered up, looks more uniform or offset a little more. Use a pair of dividers and count your wraps. The front wrap looks very good. did you use CP or NCP thread?
Just my opinions and believe me I have trouble with light on dark myself. Always a couple of guides I'm not happy with.
