I seem to have developed an oversize problem with my strips and while I can get down to metal shavings, my strips are coming up .010+ over. The indicator was set and reset with a -.102 index block. I have measured with two different calipers, wallbash.gif both seem to be reading accurate, I checked the plane for gunk and it seems to be sitting fine. The forms appear to be in good order. What am I missing? What else should I check?

If all your strips are 0.010" over then just tighten your forms 0.010" Simple! Too many people put too much into setting guages, blocks, etc. If your setting guage is 0.010" over then it is no big deal. If it sets you uo 0.010" under then you have problems. I purposly set my forms to 0.020" over and plane all the strips to the form. Measure the strips and tighten the forms the required amount to get the size strips I am looking for.

I've found that larger strips require additional planing - say 5 weight or bigger. Measure the strips before you glue it up to make sure you are hitting the taper. I haven't had an issue with lighter weight rods.
