To do something a little different, I left off the front grip on my new rod and built up a flake finish. Hard to photograph, but it looks pretty slick with the blue metalic thread.

Hope you enjoy, I know I do.

Must be a redneck...they all love sparkly stuff! whistling1.gif hysterical.gif Did you make it match your boat? I like it by the way. Always good to be creative.

Senko - that looks like it might glow under a blacklight or a full moon. Tried that? Looks very cool!
Like Tom, I, too, am interested in what you used. Flocking? Your daughters glitter? dunno.gif

BTW - Senkoman sounds very familiar. Do you hang out at Bass Resource or one of those dangerous websites?

edit: Your boat looks familiar, too.

I'm just a college educated redneck, and yes it does kind of match my boat. Might have to put an orange reel on it! Go Gators! hysterical.gif

It is 3 colors of very small poly flake (aka glitter) mixed in Flex Coat. Last coat was just blue flake over blue, black blue and silver.

And yes I hang out on a few Bass Boat sights.

Now lets see the rest of the rod whistling1.gif

There are a few pictures in the Beginners forum. I tried a couple times to get a decent picture of the spiral but the depth of field for the camera just didn't show it very well. I used 180 120 60 0 approach.

Senko. The more that I look at this, the more I like it. I would like to know a few more details. All I have ever used is the 'dust' glitter that is $10 for a little jar.

I custom paint lures, so I have a lot of different flake around. I used 3 colors of flake on this as I built it up. The silver flake is actually a super fine flake from Hobby Town that I believe PARMA makes and I usually mix this in a translucent base so I can airbrush it on lures. It is sold with other PARMA paints to paint the lexan bodys of model cars. The black/blue green (kind of a junebug thing) came from Hobby Lobby and is super fine and I could probably spray it with a larger tip, but I don't, I just mix it with epoxy to apply. The larger blue flake came from AC Moore (but I think Hobby Lobby might sell it) and it is fairly common made by Glitterex.

I just mixed all 3 with my rod epoxy and built it up in 3 layers. And like most epoxies I think it is best to not let it cure completely before applying the next layer.

I was originally going to use the glitter mix for accents but decided against that and opted for the metallic thread. Although I will probably try it for accents at some point and just tape off the thread and apply it first then seal the entire wraps after this starts to set 80%.

I don't know how you guys can tie one of those hard baits on after spending so much time on them. Kills me to lose a little fly I tied.
Hey, I just saw the remark about David Allen Coe. Love that guy, didn't he write the perfect country song?
