I want to get an extra blade or two for my LN Standard Angle 9 1/2 and am looking at a Hock A2 . How do I determine which blade to get by model # ??? (Or should I just measure the dimensions of my blade on the LN lol ?? )
Also If I can't get the Hock in A2 would anyone know if the A2's from Lee Valley are comparable to the hock ??

thanks

The blades on both are A2 a common high carbon steel grade but tempering or heat treating could be different for both blades so it would be hard to tell unless you've had experience using both side by side. There could be very little difference considering how hard A2 is.

Thanks Ken .
Now how do I determine which size blade to purchase ?? Just measure the one in the LN ? I'm assuming I'm looking at the Hock 1-3/8th but the slot size width is where I'm stumped lol

Have a look at this page then check your LN blade and measure it. You'll get a good idea from this page.

I've got a couple of these blades which are very good but I've found my older Stanley blades pretty darn good too. I toyed with getting an Academy Saws blade (ASB) which hold their edge better - better abrasive resistance - but the steel is harder which means to get the sharpest edge I might have needed to change my honing method etc. I spoke Steve Elliot who conducted a test of the well known blades and published the results & method on a website for reference and he advise me that to get the best edge from an ASB he found diamond paste was needed. I didn't want to go down that path since I was satisfied with my Stanley & Hock blades.

Here's his site. http://bladetest.infillplane.com/

Good luck.
