Long time lurker first post...

I know that many are not fans of butt wraps on fly rods, and to tell you the truth I'm on the fence about them. I'm just starting a full custom 7 wt rainshadow switch and am considering doing a modest butt wrap on it and wanted to get some feedback on the idea before I spend the time wrapping things. This is a jpg I put together to visualize what I'm thinking:

Actual thread colors would be Gudebrod Black (001), Royal Blue (245), Light Blue (521), and Garnet (524) and I will be using CP

The guide wraps would be Royal Blue, Light Blue, and Black similar to the ends of the butt wrap in question.

Any and all feedback are appreciated

I like it - but the Garnet could be brighter - maybe scarlet or goldenrod

Thanks for the feedback, and I think that you have a point that the Garnet may get a bit muddy. So, I played around with the colors a bit and it seems that Medium Gray (0720) may be a good replacement if I decide to do this.

maybe I'm missing something, but the link appears to be to a bike teams site. Thanks again for the feedback

I used a butt wrap on my8-9 wt St Croix steelhead rod years ago. Gray and Gold diamond wrap it looks pretty good. I don't think a butt wrap looks as good on the lighter wt fly rods primarily because the smaller diameter of the butt doesn't display the full potential of the wrap. Any extra weight will be negligible and near enough the butt you won't affect the action of the rod.
