I am fairly new to rod building and am wondering about the differences between Flex Coat and Threadmaster. I have only built two rods (using Threadmaster Lite on my first one and Flex Coat Lite on the second) Both turned out pretty good (especially for my first builds) but I did notice that Flex Coat seemed to migrate along the guide feet a lot more. The result being a not so straight line of finish on the inside portion of the raps along the guides. It doesn't look bad, it just behaved a little different than Threadmaster.
What are everyones thoughts on the two and has anyone encountered the same problem that I have?
I'll try to post some pics sometime in the next few days.
Thanks.

I have used about every epoxy onthe market and they are all good in there on way. Some have long pot life while others will set pretty fast. I guess what i am saying is they are all goof you just have to decide which epoxy fits your needs.

I've used Flex Coat Lite, Threadmaster Lite and regular Threadmaster. I'm partial to the regular Threadmaster. Not that the others were bad for any reason, I just find regular TM the easiest to work with for my application method and the climate where I apply it.

Threadmaster regular build is my favourite too. I've used the others, including Flex-Coat, and it's also pretty good, but I prefer the TM.

Paul, lucky for you that we read Typo

. Uhh, that
was a typo, wasn't it?
I'm new, too, and have only worked with Flex Coats two formulas. My first experience was with the Hi build. I much preferred the ease of use of the Lite that I tried recently. I may need more coats but, as a newbie, I also need the practice.

I use TML and like it. As for the Flexcoat flowing better, did you heat it a bit and not heat the TML? Room temp might be a factor also. I heat the TML so that it thins a bit but sets up a bit faster. If I'm working on a long rod, I'll mix a second batch when the TML starts to thicken.

It all goes back to the beginning. It's how you apply it. It's your room temps. It's how crazy we go to make each one perfect and we tinker too much with it.
I still have some little problems with it but I know why I did and what I did wrong. It's not uncommon for me to play with a wrap too much and end up frustrated. Then I just take some DNA,wipe it all off and say---I'll get to it tomoorrow.
I used FC and the lite for some time til I switched over to TM and TML. I use both, depending on the job.

I did warm the Flex Coat Lite in some warm water prior to use and did not do that with the TML on my first rod. Maybe that is why it "migrated" more along the guides. I have to say that I am pleased with both brands but it did seem like TML had a longer pot life.
Thanks for all the input guys.
