Any recommendations for a nice PMQ smallmouth bass taper? Looking for something 8ft 5-6 wt.

I built a Cattanach 8062 for just that purpose. That's an 8' 6wt in 2 pieces. It came out rather well, and has enough backbone to handle larger fish, but it's real strong point is that it roll casts like a dream! I downloaded the hex taper from David Ray's Taper Library, and did the quad conversion myself.
