This one will about hit you in the back of the head if you whip it hard! I think it will be an interesting mtn stream rod. I really jsut want to redo it cause it is the father in laws. I may even make it a present back to him. He always used a spinning reel on it!

The brand IS "Great Lakes". I think they were in the Port Huron Michigan area. I know someone who used to do business with them and I have asked her about details. I will pass them along when I hear from her.
They were certainly not a high end rod... in fact quite the opposite. I have some of their stuff including a big box of raw unsanded blanks that may have come from them. Theyused a couple of different colors... white and yellow for sure. I also have some solid glass stuff with that name.

Back in the olden days, when fiberglass rods were available, everybody jumped on the bandwagon. I recall more rod brands that you could shake two sticks at. I have a brown spinning rod that was from a True Value hardware store. The name is Yankee Fishing Tackle. The rest of the printing is just about gone due to many years of use.
I'm especially interested in the tiger stripe wrappings. Variegated thread?
