I get the wood working magazine and supply catalogs and I've read about making barrels and flower pots with router bits that bevel the edges of planks so they can be attached in a "circular" fashion to one another thus forming a "tube".
Does anyone have a contact or know of a wood worker that sells hexagonal shaped boxes as rod tubes for the bamboo industry?
Thanks,
Dj

I haven't gotten into just building and selling the tubes but I built and sold tubes with eight of my custom rods this last season.

Looks good. I've built hem with my tablesaw, not too accurate. Where did you get the bit?
DJ, can't help with your question, sorry.

Mike, for the life of me, I can't remember where I ordered the 30° chamfer bit I'm using but it only cost me about $20 KE

If you can do a 'boo rod, then
this case is a cinch. 30 degree bit was about $18 at Lowes.

I know several people that have made hex rod tubes. They all used their tablesaws to make the 30 degree cut. The trick is to use the rip fence and a feather board, to hold the slats down against the table, and to cut it a few thousandths over sized. Then, guess what..., you make a couple of passes with your Stanley 9 1/2 to plane down to final dimensions. I suppose the router table and 30 degree beveling bit would be a little easier, if you have a good router table.
I have made a hexagonal Bluebird house this way, just to test the techniques. It is a bit of a challenge, but the results are nice. I may try a rod tube next summer.

Hi folks,
The cases Charley makes are really nice. When my customers ask for a hex case, I'll be asking Charley about getting a few.
