I know it has nothing to do with rod building, but I just finished it and thought I would share. It's a Spalted Maple Vase with a Honduran Rosewood lip. What do you guys think?

By now you must know I am very interested in finishing. Any special tricks to putting the finish on this beauty.

Cheers,

Thanks for the comments gang. The finish on this one was very easy Dick. I sanded to 600 grit then put 5 coats of shellawax paste on it. The finer you sand the better the shine from shellawax.

Thanks gang, I did this one for my sister in law in Nevada. For those of you that have not tried hollowing, it's a lot of fun but take your time. I've got about 14 hours into this. Not much of a money maker if your going to sell them but fun never the less!

Curiosity demands that I ask. How do you safely turn that skinny and deep. I don't think that I have the necissary hanging equiptment to attempt it.

I use a deep hollowing set called the stinger and the scorpion. It come with an arm brace to help with the torque. Lee Valley carries it.
