It's official. I'll be a canesplitter soon! I just ordered a set of J.D. Wagner planing forms, and have put together a Christmas list filled with many of the other tools and gadgets a fellow needs to get started.

Of course you know I'll be bugging you 'boo veterans for advice. Remember, you've been warned... devil.gif

congrats and nic choice on forms sort the most important tool i would say. If I may ask why did you go with J.D. Wagner rather than the Bellinger form? That is a great deal Bellinger gives you. Being an Enginare and all you might have soem insight rather than the price point.

Congrats John. I just did the same thing last week. She's just sitting on my bench now, alongside a trio of L/N planes...brand new, never sharpened.

I'll have to wait a tad due to an arm op. in a month. But next winter when the fishing stops...

Good luck. I'll be listening! thumbsup.gif

Since it includes a depth gauge, the Bellinger form was definitely a temptation. Ultimately, though, I decided to go with the Wagner form because both its adjusting screws are on the same side of the form. My workbench is one-sided, so I figured it would be handier. Also, the Wagner form allows you to make extremely fine tips -- ideal for the small-stream rods I'll be making.

Wow. Talk about your coincidences! I just ordered a Lie-Nielsen plane, and I'm also scheduled for an operation (shoulder) that will delay my start. (Twilight Zone music plays) blink.gif

Good luck with your surgery!
