Full Version: Multi Threadwraps/Trimbands Version II

In this post I'll discuss trimbanding and multi-thread wrap designs with a twist. I've since altered the wrap I pictured in the original tutorial (see multithread wraps revisited with modifications post) to reduce the white trimbanding. Now I wish to copy the "scaling" of that modified guidewrap and transfer it with the rewrap of the ferrule guide.

(step 1) Using a cut up CCard, I gain a picture of the thickness of the sample guidewrap. Looks like a few turns to the left of the upside down lower case "a".

(step 2) This gives me an idea on how much room I'll need from the edge of the ferrule to accomodate the white, the HT metallic pewter, and a few wraps of orange before the ramp up the guide foot begins.

(step 3) I've tapped the guide down and here I'm rechecking the depth.

(step 4) Ready to begin the wrap

(step 5) I've cut a piece of HT metallic pewter and longer length of white thread and they are now taped to the rod blank.

(step 6) At this point, I've got a sufficient amount of orange thread to allow for removal of the masking tape. Make sure that no glue remnants remain on the blank upon removal of the tape.

(step 7) Masking tape removed and I've also trimmed the two lengths of trimband thread since they are anchored well at this point by the orange overwraps of the main thread.

(step 8) A little fast forward. The main wrap is finished and it is time to get the trimbanding started.

(step 9) Since the HT metallic thread is the first out from the edg of the orange, I'll keep the white taped to the blank, off to the left (out of picture frame), and wrap the metallic overtop with two turns. Fast forward again, two turns of metallic, pull through overhand knot style, and ready to be trimmed.

(step 10) I've repeated the usual wrapping procedures with the white and have packed it well.

(step 11) The first version.

(step 12) The reduced verison. I like the look!

I hope you see that there are a bunch of different ways to skin that same cat!

Nice idea, I will defiantly have to remember that one.

in this method, one should probably use CP so the main thread doesn't go translucent, showing the trim threads underneath, correct? maybe i missed something. I do like doing it this way though, makes multiple thread color trim wraps very easy.

All threads are NCP...no color preservative needed (if memory serves). If they weren't, then yes, you would want to color preserve the wrap or you would see the tag ends for all the colors and it wouldn't be appealing.

roger that. i don't typically use NCP thread, but maybe i'll pick some more up and play around with it more.

how is the metallic and the white thread secured after the orange is down? Im not understanding the procedure so well....please clairfy for me.

Pull through loops wrapped underneath pull the tag ends and secure them.

This thread should help you see the end result with regards to tag end securing.
