I have been fishing 1-weights for quite a while and at one point, I owned 5 different makes.

I have cast the Dancraft and it is a nice rod, nicer than the Orvis 1-weight but that is about it.

Granted for the price, the rod blank is outstanding and even the cast/action yet I would like to offer you that the Sage SPL, SLT or TXL series of rods for that weight is superior in all aspects. You may not find the length or pieces you want but you will find quality and user friendly performance that will not hold you back.

There are not many compromises in a Sage rod except the price, if you can get over that, you are all set.

I would put my vote in for the discontinued Sage SPL 6' 3" 1 weight....sweeeet little creek rod and can really throw 30' if you need to.

What kind of budget do you have in mind? I built an SPL from blanks with blue nylon wraps w/ silver metallic trims, recoil guide, and a dual slide venneri reel seat, but since I'm switching to cane, I could be persuaded for the right price. I have a Sage Quiet Taper line, too. pimp.gif

Just to add my 2 cents, I took my Dancraft 7'-0" 1wt out last night and got into 15 big bluegills, a crappie and a 1-1/2# bass (everything hit the same #14 GRHE). The rod handled beutifully with a 3wt line on it, and a measured cast came in at 50' on the money. I'm sure the Sage is a quality rod, but this Dancraft is more affordable if you're on a budget. This rod has Mark Shamburg Titaniun hardware, and custom grip & reelseat as well. This outfit is NOT for sale or trade.

I need to make a board apology and correction; my Sage SPL I mentioned above is NOT 6' 3"; it is an 8' 3 piece rod.

Sorry for the confusion; did not intend to misrepresent.

We don't need any stinkin apologies!

The rod you speak of es muy bien senor.

You should cast any rod before you buy it, do that, care less who thinks what is best although you will not go wrong with any Sage 1-weight purchase without casting...
