Cool reel seat too! Is that a birch bark grip?

Kurt
STUNNING work. Wish I could have read your website, but the pictures spoke for themselves.

One question about the grip. Do you run the cork sideways? It looks like the pores in the cork go around the grip and not lengthwise on the grip. AND Do you have any problems doing that?
Sorry 2 questions.

Thanks @all. Sorry about my english, but i have never learned it in the school.
@Harry Boyd: Thank you verry much for the varnish informations - here i have my greatest handycap.
@Chris: You have right it is a birch bark grip. I have see this technique in Norway, they make knife grips at the same.
@mmarkey: I also make grips from cork, but this grip is from birch bark. Birch bark is a very good material and really good corkrings are rare!

All the best

That is truly amazing...13 strips. bugeyes.gif I can imagine that you worked many hours to cut and taper each strip and then glue them together. The grip and reel seat are truly unique. Also, your English is very good. I took German in college many years ago but not for conversation, only translating for academic research. Your German website makes me want to get out my books and translate the text. Thanks for sharing this work of art. Danke, mein Herr.

Hello and thanks for the welcome.
The minimal planingformsetting at the tip is 0,30 mm; that gives a Rod with 0,92 mm diameter in the tip for Lineclass #2-3. It is true, making a 3pc Rod, needs 39 strips and this is a lot of work. Also gluing is difficult with 13 small strips in the tip. Since i make my rods with 13 strips, i know new problems, never had with 6 strips!
Here i have more fotos from my rods:
