I have built a few 3 and 4 pc rods with no problem but I have never done a 5pc. Are there any pit falls I should watch out for with guide spacing. It will be a 3wt 8'6".

No real problems with 5pc other than you might have to adjust a guide or two because of falling on ferules. What I usually do is if it falls right below a ferule I'll normally move it an inch up onto the ferule for strength reasons. Other than that you shouldn't have any issues.
