I am building my first fly rod. I have ordered a Gatti FRLW 7' 6" it has a #2 line weight. For guides I ordered 5.5mm Fuji SIC titauimum frames. The look too small.

I planned on a Size 12 stripper, three size 8's then the 5.5's.

Is this good?

for a 2wt you want pretty small guides, I would start with a size 10 stripper, then taper it down to a 6,5.5,5.5,5.5,5,5,5. My question to you is do you really want sic guides on a 2wt most fly rods use wire guides after the striper guide. The sic guides are good but are heavier, they help cast further, but that dosnt seem to necessary with a 2wt dunno.gif

My father wants them. So, that is what he gets. Over the past three years we have made three match set of fishing rods. Two spinning and now the fly rod.

They all have the same American Tackle Half Wells grip and matching fly seat, with fighting butt.

Please the customer?, he's my Dad.

I want to make sure I make him a good rod. Are the 5.5 too small?

5.5 will be fine for a 2 weight, but you also might consider a 5.5 tip (hoop size)
and also 8 - 10 stripper

I got a 5.5 tip.

I have Five 5.5 guides and three 8 guides, plus the stripper.

Do I have too many?

5's are huge for a 2wt. I am building a 3wt now with 1's. Any particular reason you decided to go with something so large?

The original poster hasn't posted on this site since he posted on this thread.....6 years ago.

It's likely that he isn't going to see it.

He was using 5.5 size guides that are single foot guides, not double foot (snake) guides.

5 or 5.5 would be fine for a 2 wt rod.

I understand that the post was old. I still wanted the information that was inside someones head regarding the sizing.

You answered my question, just like I had hoped someone would.

Thanks!
