A bathroom is the right place -- no dust if you hang a few slightly damp towels. The you might brush or pour -- I do the latter with 2K PU laquer -- very nice results and almost no family stress. Jürgen

Indeed your heat treating is then similar to what I do; the same is for hollowing tips - I do it at least partially in the tips without desasters -- so far . May be it was the coincidence of flaming/hollowing and heat treating that killed your tip -- Jürgen

Hi Cliff, as you described the break -- like a dry stick -- it points to an overheated blank which is not worth to repair except for a wall display rod. A new tip would only be worth the effort if the butt section was treated less radical. Jürgen

Is the winding check the same wood as the reel seat.
They look really good!
Fantastic rod

Yes, Winding check and reel seat spacer are turned from the same pen blank (stained buckeye burl)

Hi Radivoj,
thanks for the nice comment. We had the ferrules made in the mid 80ies -- I don't even know by whom. The reel seat space is stabilized Buckeye Burl (Pen Blank) stained greenish. I found this very beautiful. Jürgen
