Is there any interest from Bamboo makers and enthusiasts in Alberta for a one day get together this spring or summer? I discussed this with maker Don Anderson and Bow River guide Rich Mason last year. Each new of some 'local' guys that would be interested but nothing stuck. So I'm asking on this forum as I see several of you are from around Alberta.

Regards,
Ron

Yes. Summer is better; my spring is looking crazy!

I'd be willing to help out organizing, if needed.

BowBound, do you know many bamboo users in the Calgary area? I know Rich Mason (Bow River Adventures Guiding Business) was interested though his weekends are usually tied up guiding the Bow during the summer months.
I think some casual gathering of a dozen or so guys near Calgary would be a good start. My intent is not to have a big forum on rod making. My main goal is to try casting other tapers and to get a better appreciation for various rod makers work.

I am organizing a Calgary cane order right now. Probably a half dozen there that would be interested (minus one if your the same Ron!). I know a few others, as well, that would be interested.

I think with a little coordination effort and a decent venue for some casting and a BBQ, and we'd have a great day.

Conor,

seems like you know a few that may be interested. It would be great if we could get a feel for the level of interest for this and then go from there.

Depending on the weekend I'd be in. I would also be in for a mid week get together.

Ron, Conor and all,

Sounds like a good chance to meet some of the bamboo Rod Enthusiasts. At this point all I can bring is my interest in building on a Bamboo Blank. Keep us posted!

Cheers,
Dick Seymour

After a day of casting different bamboo, you will no doubt gain a very good appreciation for tapers to start your rod building career. But beware - YOU CAN'T JUST STOP AT ONE shocking.gif

Alright. I'll kick this off. Shouldn't be too hard to pull off.

Send me a PM with your emails, and I'll get in touch.

BowBound - PM sent

Question, do we want to include vintage cane or just rods by contemporary makers and ourselves?

I know someone who would be interested that has a small fortune in beautiful vintage cane. Seems like there are also a few guys interested that are not makers, but do great rod work. I say bring whatever you want, including interesting glass or plastic.

I've got about a half dozen emails now, and a handful more I have to dig up.

Boys.... is this thing happening or what? i would be interested in attending if the get together was on a weekend, I would have to drive or fly from Vancouver. One of you guys want to take a fellow maker out on the bow for a day maybe?
James
