I'm not Chris but will attempt an answer. Both the acetone and denatured alcohol are used in the same ratios. So yes, the mixture is the same. Results are identical too.

Thank you

I would like to try this sometime, but my guide feet always get black and scratched - how do you prevent that?

A lighter touch grinding them or use needle file to shape the foot.

You can also use guides like Snake Brand Guides that are nearly perfect to start with.

Love your wraps. What is the process you use to finish colored silk wraps on graphite? Nylon wraps on graphite? Perhaps you have posted before on that> Any direction would be helpful. Thanks

Thanks! Finishing silk on graphite is pretty much the same, though its easier to use epoxy for the final coat(s) than varnish. I've never tried doing transparent wraps w/ nylon but I'd expect it wouldn't work out as well, though I have no real evidence for that.

It doesn't. I have tried it and it comes out milky.

Thanks for this great 'thread' thread. Getting ready to re-do an old bamboo rod and this is exactly what I was looking for.

FWIW women use acetone to remove nail polish all the time. Pretty hard to do without getting it on the fingers. In the small amounts discussed here, I wouldn't worry about getting it on my fingers regardless.

BTW is 3/0 silk the size used for wraps?

3/0 works just fine. I've had good luck with any gauge of silk though I prefer the finer stuff.
