hi everybody,i have had both the books now [ Maurer's and Elser's Fundamental of Building a Bamboo Flyrod and Handcrafting Bamboo Fly Rods by Wayne Cattanach ] .have read about 3/4 way through cattanach book and is easy to follow and well written,and i am about 1/4 way through the other book,also very good,i am in the middle of making formers at the moment,many thanks for the help from everyone,i'm off to do some more drilling,dowelling and threading now ,so happy new year to everyone

hi everyone, many thanks for the replies, i think that Maurer's and Elser's Fundamental of Building a Bamboo Flyrod and Handcrafting Bamboo Fly Rods by Wayne Cattanach will be my reading over the winter , ready for next year, also sites suggested here and this site, i suppose once i get started , as everybody does will find the way that best fits in with their way of doing things, many thanks again and i look forward to my bamboo apprenticeship

hi bushy palmer, yep you can always count on a fellow celt !!, if you are attending the british fly fair in a couple of weeks keep a look out for me as i'm tying there again this year,let me know how you get on with the ameriacan blanks, the suggestion by gnossos is a great idea and would help beginners in europa quite a bit

hi bushy palmer ,how is sunny scotland?, i've actually got a 10'6 whisker kevlar rod here which i haven't used for years, if you interested , have you tried david norwich for a blank, i spoke to him today regarding a small river rod ,although i wanted a 7'6 rod which they dont actually make ,he said that he would make one for me ,no problem , so he may be a good bet, dont want to take over the thread but how do british rod builders fare with customs and excise with goods from the states ?
