Plug for Hand Binding

27 August 2016 - 05:51 PM

I understand the push back from most bamboo rodmakers when some guys mention that they hand bind their blanks. Well, I've just gotten back into making blanks again and today I decided to forgo using a binder and do it by hand. If I was using a glue with a short open time, yep a binder is absolutely necessary. But, I was using a PU glue and doing a short rod. This has to be the straightest blank, right out of the string. It was laborious, but my hands never cramped up and to my way of thinking it saved the time I would normally spend heat-straightening and removes the risk of delamination from straightening. YMMV. Keep on, keeping on - I'm just glad to be making my own blanks again.

Short Bass/Panfish rod

21 June 2016 - 07:53 PM

I've taken to fishing a lot of medium to small streams for bass and panfish. This is popper and streamer water and gets tight at times. I've been looking for a 7' 6wt taper to make and have derived a few options, but was wondering if anyone has come up a rod taper that might fit these conditions?
