River Rat,

What did you do to stretch the Martha Marie? In my experience, it's hard to stretch the PHY tapers without doing some dimensional graphing. I really love that taper and now that I just got back into building blanks again, it's the next taper up on my bench (as is). I already have a Para 15 copy (the big brother for that taper) that fills my 8', 6wt niche. I do plan on making a Dickerson 8014GS in the near future, but after the Martha Marie taper, I'm going to make a couple of 7' 4wts for fishing the Smokies next spring.

I use Polyurethane glue (Elmers - GG foams too much for me) for bamboo blanks and for ferrules - once I've established that I like the rod. However, PU glue is not as reversible as Rod Bond or some of the epoxies. It takes close to 600 degrees to get PU glues to let go and by then your rod is toast. I only use it once I'm looking for everything on the rod to be permanent.

I wonder how River Rat's rod came out? A Martha Marie is my second rod up on the bench for this season. I have a confirmed taper for mine and it's pretty much the same numbers that were last posted in this thread (except for the .185 measurement, that must have been a typo).

Sent you a private message. I am set up to do quads and would be very interested.

Hey Tim,

Thanks, I've seen that taper in the past and wondered how well it would work, since I've never had anyone recommend it. I think I'll give it a try, especially since I won't have to wait for the plastic shims to arrive before I start in on finish planning.
