About Me

Hi. My name is Mike. I'm 68 y.o. and have been flyfishing for 30+ years. Started building rods around 1983 and took over teaching it for Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers a few years later. I guess I build about 5 rods a year ... usually while running a class. NKFF pays for the components and then those rods go into the raffles at our monthly meetings. I've always loved the old slow-action glass rods and the first generation of graphite. Lately I've taken to rebuilding old glass rods ... I hope that isn't considered heresy. Don't do much with bamboo (not enough patience).

When I retired in 2002 we were asked to take temporary custody of a 5-month old baby girl. We adopted her two years later. No she's in the fourth grade. She's been fishing (with a Barbie spin outfit) since she was three and has caught lots of panfish, bass and both rainbow and brown trout. I thought she was getting curious about fly tying and my rod-building ... but just a few months ago she told me she thought fishing was "boring". Can't wait till she's a little older so I can teach her to shoot also. Right now she's more interested in her piano, voice and drama lessons (like any 9-y.o. girl needs drama lessons).

I'm trying to step away from the running of NKFF but every time I turn something over to someone else it seems like they last a few months then can't can't do it any more .
.. so I get it back.

I've now stepped out of any part of running the South Eastern Council of FFF which I helped Fred Stevenson get started back in 1991. After 21 years of being involved I jus want to participate in the events for a while.
