Getting ready to refinish an old Shakespeare bamboo fly rod. All the guides are badly corroded and will be replaced, but this tiptop caught my eye as I was measuring it.
It's not made from wire or a ring as usual. Appears to be a piece of flat metal with a hole bored and the tail bent and soldered into the tube. I don't know if it's original or a replacement as it was there when I got it, but the condition is consistent with the other guides. The only clue I have that it's a Shakespeare rod is the remnants of the "Honor Built" oval decal on the shaft.
Anyone know anything about these?
ID this old odd tiptop
