Is there a comparative list of Granger tapers somewhere that could tell me the model of a Granger by its taper? All identifying information has been obliterated when the rod was remodeled.

No, the Granger tapers did not vary by model. An 8040 Victory has the same taper (in theory) as an 8040 Aristocrat. Sorry, wish I could be more help.

Thanks, Harry. That answers my question. I might as well assume it's an Aristocrat as a Victory. I will just pick the color code I like best.

However, not all models were made in all tapers. I suggest you check out http://classicflyrodforum.com/forum/ . There are folks who frequent that site that have written the book on Granger rods.
