I'm restoring a rod my dad gave me when I was 8 years old (am now 33) and I plan to give it to my son who is 9 (if he ever puts down his fly rod for some reason). I like the guides and their good quality so I was wondering if I could touch up the gold paint or what ever coating is on it or do I need to buy new ones?

Just ran across this thread. Seems like normal wear. Paint would wear off real quick. Spend a few bucks and get quality gold guides.

I agree with John. Guides don't cost that much.
