The winner of the reel seat poll was decisively the Bureau seat seen above. But, after speaking with Chet at Bellingers, he graciously offered to make up a special seat for a runoff vote with, and I quote, "...more funk in it than a Jerry Garcia tie!" laugh.gif I got to check out the seat yesterday and, well, you can see how beautiful it is for yourself. So vote for your favorite, the winner of the two will go on the '05 FTOTY bamboo rod.

Thanks Chet! thumbup.gif

I'm going to let this poll go through this Sunday, November 6th, 8pm EST.

Just to clarify where I stand I put in an official vote for the Bellinger and I will now put forth my unofficial for the Bureau headbang.gif ... in other words I'm officially torn... or what Yogi Berra said "when you come to a fork in the road, take it..."

Well the metal finish on the Bellinger is much nicer but the shape of the Bureau hardware is just plain beautiful. I also like that the un-mortised portion of the Bureau seat is longer. It makes for an overal longer seat but it looks so much more elegant to me.

Bureau, I vote Bureau!

I voted for the Bellinger, the "fissure" lines(well whatever they are) are hypnotic to me, I can't stop looking at them.

I picked Bellinger because it could make for some nice thread and agate combinations.

They're both really sweet seats with nice metalwork and burls.
The spalting on the Bellinger is sweeeeet though and as Ken said would look nice with some different agates.

That is the kind of poll I like! Nice and close.

Looks like the Bellinger seat is our winner 14-12.

The next poll will be up shortly. kicking.gif

I voted for the Bellinger. The color in that Amboyna is incredible!

I'm a hobbyist woodworker. Used to be totally all I did and it was intense. Then...along came the fly rod and tying and now bamboo.

My table saw sits idle....

Man, this is a wonderful forum!

That amboyna reel seat is incredible!! Chet really went all out with that one!
"A three or four ounce split bamboo rod, with a well balanced reel, a tapered casting line, a leader of the proper fineness, and a well tied fly, or flies, is one of the most perfectly designed and executed triumphs of human artisanship."

I like the crisp mortising of the bellinger reelseat notwithstanding the beautiful Ambonya!

Sometimes while sleeping I set the hooks so hard I wake myself up! It's really going to get ugly if I ever get one on!
