#234725 Rod for my Granddaughter

Posted by John T. on 05 July 2019 - 07:42 PM in Rod Showcase

Nice. All my grandkids have a rod I built. The last one had a rod while she was still in the nursery. Nice rod that will be treasured for years. Complements.

#234724 Swing weight?

Howdy! Been a long time! Was on a fly fishing forum and came across the term in the title. Anyone heard of it or is it a selling point for rods? I was on here regularly for several years and never heard anyone mention it. The link mentions it but, to me, it merely refers how tired you get after casting a fly rod for so long. https://www.yellowst...nXeNe6NdpVsBtJs

Will check back for your input. Thanks.

Thanks. Will measure the repair piece and wrap. Friend is OK with a stiffer action.

#234694 Home Made Rod Carrier

I did notice the lock but my father always said locks are for honest people. Keep it waxed to make it easy to remove the bug guts.

#234693 Repair question

Posted by John T. on 07 September 2018 - 01:09 PM in General Rod Building

A friend built a fly rod about 8-10 years ago at my class at church. He brought the tip by today to see if I could repair it. It is a 4 ft. tip and the break is about 14 inches from the female ferrule. I do have a piece of a tip that I can glue and insert into the lower section. Then I can slip the other part over the old tip. It is a clean break, fortunately. He suspects that some of the grandkids might have something to do with it as they have been fishing with him. Now- how much of the tip should I insert into each of the broken pieces? The tip section is about 14 inches long. Many thanks to all. Will epoxy it in place and wrap with black thread to hide the break.

FWIW, our Trout Unlimited website has pretty much gone to Facebook.

Closed the rod building about 18 months ago. I did find a niche as it is often suggested for a business but, after much  contemplation, didn't retire to go into a full time job again. Always enjoyed the knowledge and banter from the RBF group and learned a lot from them. I am now focusing on carp fishing, with Euro spinning gear or now, with a fly rod. Have some contacts in east TN who have volunteered to show me some places to catch common carp and grass carp. Best to you all!
