Curious to see if anybody else has a few "dirty secrets" about rod building that go against conventional wisdom. I've probably built 75-100 rods. I think I bothered to find the spline on the first 7 or 8. I spent a lot of time refinishing old cane rods, and I usually flipped the spline to help work out any sets in the rod tip. After you work with the old 9' cane rods, it's hard to care about the spline on a new 6' 6" MH graphite casting blank.
