I have a set of Bootsrap forms and I think they are a good buy for the price. They are not absolutely perfect and they don't have a fancy finish on them, but they adjust easily and accurately and work well for me.

I think they are a good option and would recommend them. They will make most rods from about a light 3 wt up. They also have 1 inch adjustments to allow for building swelled butts.

My Bootstrap forms needed a little (very little) tweaking in the form of filing flat one little section. It was nothing serious and took about 5 minutes. It's true..they don't have the .001 graduation between stations but they will adjust for most any conventional taper 3 wt and up.
The adjustment bolts/set screws are all very high grade.
I look forward to using the 2 1/2 inch adjustments in the butt to build a swelled butt rod for my next project.
For the price, they may be the best deal around. IMHO.

I sent an email to the colorado bootstraps website inquiring about ordering a set of planing forms on July 6th and just today (July 23rd) received a reply that he had turned over the business to Bogue Machine in Albuqerque, NM. In the meantime, I ordered a set of forms from another source listed (I still haven't received them yet, so the jury is still out on them), but I would have to say colorado bootstraps is not a viable source of forms.

Martin60,

Frank has had his forms (Colorado Bootstraps) manufactured in New Mexico for quite some time now, when I purchased mine nearly a year ago, they came from Bogue as well. They are manufactured there under Frank's design specifications. I would imagine that a quick call to Bogue would confirm that the forms are still available.

Cheers,

Jay

Just got off the phone with Bogue Manufacturing in New Mexico and they confirmed that they still offer the Colorado Bootstrap forms. They don't have any in stock at the moment, but are planning a manufacturing run shortly to resupply their inventory. Anyone interested in the forms should contact Bogue at 505-344-9988.

I bought my forms back in January or February from Frank Armbruster. I left him a voicemail and he called back in 5 minutes. He was very helpful, very professional, and had lots of advice. He directed me to call Bogue Machines directly. Bogue had my forms shipped out in 4 days. I cannot compare them to other forms since I have never used another set, but I am satisfied so far. If anything I bought his to get me through until I had the time and tools to build my own. If you are starting out, planing forms are your largest expense and if you change your mind you can sell them for nearly what you paid for them. You can also sell them to upgrade if that time comes.

Hi Guys...

Another form maker is Forrest Maxwell.
I "think" (sorry) he either works or worked for Bellinger.
A very nice set of forms.

He did previously make Bellinger's forms, but not any longer.
