The poll above shows the stress curve charts for the taper options. Basically, the higher the point on the graph, the softer that point is. In general, a down-sloping graph is a faster action rod (soft tip, and stiff butt). The rod actions go from faster (top) to parabolic, or more full-flexing (bottom).

If you have any questions regarding a specific taper, please ask in this post or feel free to start a new topic. thumbsup.gif

I voted dickerson. I like the idea of a longer rod and I honestly dont know much about the taper.

For a bamboo rod I vote for a short length.
If you are in a situation where you need something over 8 feet, might as well let graphite do what graphite does best - make a long lightweight rod. I almost always use a short (7' or shorter) cane rod, because where most people say they need a long rod, I still do very well with a short one. Mending line, float tubing, roll casting. I haven't fished for salmon or steelhead yet, so my tune may change if I ever do.

The taper I would make for this rod would be the Cattanach "Sir D" taper. It has an almost universal appeal to fly fishers, especially one just going to bamboo from graphite.

I'm going to call it quits on this vote as it has been up for over a week and things seem to have stabilized. The final is for the Dickerson 8013 which has 10 votes.

I'll get the next poll in place in the next day or two. Stay tuned!
