Unlimited Pay It Forward thread

17 December 2011 - 06:00 PM

This is the best custom rod building community on the internet. I could list 10 reasons why but that is for a different thread.

It is.

I'm sure there are a lot of builders like me that have collected a bunch of "stuff" over the years that we really don't need anymore but would be a fantastic asset to someone with less experience in the craft.

So this post begins the rodbuildingforum.com pay-it forward good will thread.
From here on out you can post up items that you are willing to pass along to encourage other builders and build the craft as an art.

The person offering the item gets to set the ground rules on who qualifies for the item and shipping fees but the only steadfast rule is that the item must be free.

Likewise the person who receives the item should also pass it along someday, for free. If we catch you hawking it on ebay we'll be making a roadtrip to your house!

(I'll start it in the next post)

Go big or

28 November 2011 - 07:59 PM

I treated myself to an early Christmas gift.

The Turncrafter Commander from Penn State Industries.

1 HP, turn-knob variable speed, with the bed extension.

I bought the big table and it barely fits.

Sh*ts gettin turned!

turning tools

The piece of crap turning tools I have now are hitting the curb and I'm going to invest in some high quality hardware. Anyone have any suggestion and/or reviews?

I'm looking at the Benjamin Best Hardened Stainless Steel series from Penn State Industries.

If anyone here has any pull at Batson Enterprises, or better yet if one of the Batson's browse through here...

How about a series of fiberglass fly rod blanks?????

Something Different

22 May 2011 - 09:48 PM

A co-worker bought an Allen Ti blank and asked what I could do with it.

The blank is a 9' 5wt 4 piece. It is advertised as some form of IM10 graphite or the such. I don't know about all that but it is a very nice stick of graphite. They could do a better job on the finish but the overall product is good.

Batson UL5 seat with green dyed maple burl wood.

It's too fast for a 5 wt but throws a 6 WF like a champ.

I used a single foot ceramic for the 2nd stripper.
