Any suggestions for a lightweight (less than 8oz) spinning reel for an 8ft graphite MHX blank. Fishing for walleye. Need long casting with jigs and small stickbaits. Will also use it for drifting

bugeyes.gif bugeyes.gif Sorry - hit "enter" by mistake... Will be drifting walleye rigs as well. Would like max line cap at least 140yds. Thanks

The Shimano CI4 in a size 2500 would work well. Lightweight with a good drag. The 2500 will cast better than most 1000 size reels. I would look for the previous model which was discontinued last year. I have this model and the only thing I don't like is the foam grip which I don't expect to last the life of the reel but I will replace it with something else when the time comes.

Personally I use all "wave spin" reels and they work great

For the price you can't go wrong with a Pflueger

The cI4 is a great reel. The Pflueger Patriarch is a good bang for the buck as well.

I'd get the Shimano 3000, 40 yards more line capacity, no weight difference, slightly faster retrieve. If your using the blank I think you are think steelhead, big trout, maybe salmon on the same setup.

I like the newer daiwa advantage reels. I have the 2000, and the 2500. I like the 2000 a lot and just picked up a second. The Sol and fuego are nice to. I don't like the cheaper daiwas.
