A friend of mine has recently gotten his lathe up and running. I've been having a blast digging through the burn pile for wood and learning how to use the lathe. I fear the day when I start buying wood, this could get expensive real fast. Addictive and fun indeed. I've got a piece of hickory rounded up on a mandrel right now for my first stab at an insert and I've been reading up on CA finishes to go ahead and try that too.

Chris, just a thought since you're down in Charleston and I'd guess most of your builds are for the salt - from what I've read - stabilized wood or some other really tough finish may be a good idea for you. I'd guess the better care you take with any finish to rinse it and such would prolong its life, but surely there are some finishes out there that are just no good for saltwater applications. Hopefully someone who actually knows what they're talking about will chime in here dunno.gif .

Yeah, what Mike and Cody said. I buggered up my first grip, so I still haven't even really begun other than getting everything (but the grip wallbash.gif ) together. I haven't gotten the decal yet either -yeah, yeah...that's what's holding me up whistling1.gif .

Did I mention frustration and disappointing results? hysterical.gif hysterical.gif hysterical.gif

I've even heard of some "other", anonymous decal making fella, with a fancy ALPS printer and all, recently having trouble with some new paper.

It may well be possible, but from everything I've read in here the folks that have tried it have mostly ended up frustrated and disappointed with the results.
Most folks use a place like Decal Connection.
